Benidorm City Council unveils a new municipal website that is faster, more accessible and more user-friendly
The new ‘benidorm.org’ website offers an optimised design for mobile devices, easier navigation and a clearer structure for its content
Benidorm City Council has launched the new version of its municipal website, benidorm.org, featuring a comprehensive redesign to make it easier for residents to access information, services, and municipal news. The new website has been developed with a ‘mobile first’ approach, prioritising the browsing experience on smartphones. This decision responds to “the evolution of users’ habits, as in recent years almost two out of every three visits to the municipal portal have been made from a mobile phone,” explained Councillor for Communication Juan Díaz. “The new design adapts content, navigation and graphic elements to these screens, while also ensuring correct display on computers and tablets,” he added.
The portal also updates the City Council’s digital image online. The redesign maintains the language and identity that users are already familiar with while introducing a significant simplification of the graphic interface. The result is a cleaner, clearer and more intuitive website that removes unnecessary elements and makes it easier to identify information and access the main navigation options.
Another key focus of the redesign has been improving the information architecture. Content has been structured so that users can find news, the events calendar, updates, municipal departments and access the different services and portals more easily.
The homepage features a prominent search bar and provides quick access to the Electronic Office and other municipal services. The portal also continues to offer content in Spanish, Valencian and English, serving both residents and the many users who access municipal information from outside Benidorm.
The redesign has also included a complete upgrade of the website's technological platform and all of its system components. This modernisation “provides a more secure, stable and sustainable foundation, makes the portal easier to maintain and enables the continued addition of new services and functionalities,” said Councillor for Innovation Aida García Mayor.
Several technical improvements have also been introduced to increase loading speeds and make navigation easier. These improvements to the platform's resources and components result in faster response times and a smoother user experience, particularly on mobile devices.
Accessibility remains one of the guiding principles of the municipal website. The new portal continues to comply with accessibility standards and the requirements established for public administration websites. The aim is to ensure that everyone can access municipal information regardless of their abilities, age, device or assistive technology.
The launch of the new website also marks the beginning of a new phase. “The City Council will continue to develop the portal by progressively incorporating artificial intelligence capabilities, making use of the municipality's new AI infrastructure. These improvements will be aimed at making it easier to search for and access information, enhancing the user experience and further improving the overall quality of the City Council's digital content and services,” the councillor concluded.
