The car park expands its capacity by almost 70 spaces in the part closest to Uruguay and Xixo
Benidorm city council has started an action to improve the residential environment and pedestrian protection at a crossroads located on Avenida Uruguay that had been in high demand by the residents of this area in recent times due to poor visibility and high speed with which some vehicles circulate.
The works have already begun and have an execution period of one month. The campaign 'A pie de Calle has moved to this point today to see first-hand the development of the works with the Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, and the Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, at the helm. Both have been accompanied by residents of the area.
The objective of this action, the councilor has advanced, is to "slow down the speed and improve the visibility of vehicles leaving the urbanization while giving greater protection to this pedestrian crossing."
The City Council has detected that in the summer season, the crossing has a large influx of pedestrians and the neighbors have reported that the traffic of vehicles on this road has increased as the passage through Armada Española is limited. "With this intervention we managed to calm down the traffic and provide greater pedestrian protection, becoming a more comfortable and safe section of a residential area," said González de Zárate.
The action will also make it possible to meet municipal objectives such as "improving universal accessibility and road safety" for which directional tactile paving will also be installed so that people with visual disabilities can move more comfortably along this itinerary.
“The neighbors asked us to slow down and work has already begun to narrow the traffic lane and to increase pedestrian visibility. It is a good measure that will solve the problem" said the Councilor for Public Space, who has also advanced that another neighborhood demand related to street lighting will be addressed "because the third phase of the IDAE program has already been awarded and includes this avenue, which will also have led technology”.
On the other hand, the 'A pie de Calle' campaign has moved to the parking lot on Cuba Street, which has been expanded "after the great success that has occurred at Easter." Nearly 70 more spaces have been set up in the lower part of the enclosure, the closest to Uruguay and Xixo streets. "It is already operational" has announced González de Zárate, who has expressed his satisfaction with the use and occupation that is being given to these car parks. This expansion will also entail the installation of an entrance on Calle Uruguay so that users can access the Xixo area from it "and in three minutes they will be on the beach."
The extension of this dissuasive car park makes it possible to have a thousand spaces "available to shops, restaurants and for those who go to the beach, thus dismantling the idea of those who affirm that there is a lack of parking in the city". In the opinion of González de Zárate "Not only are there many parking spaces, but the car parks are well designed and organized and this is good news for the people of Poniente".
