The City Council undertakes the replacement of the pavement with another non-slip one on the section of Jaime I Avenue
Benidorm improves accessibility and pedestrian mobility in Marqués de Comillas Street
Benidorm City Council is acting to improve accessibility and pedestrian mobility on Marqués de Comillas Street, in the section close to Jaime I Avenue. The action, fundamentally, consists of replacing the old pavement with a non-slip one. , in addition to some reductions in the sidewalk.
This morning the 'A pie de calle' campaign visited the area where work is being carried out. The councilors of Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, and of Mobility, Francis Muñoz, of Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate; and of Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro travelled there.
This is a very similar action to the one carried out before the summer on Limones Street and the objective is, as explained by councilor Francis Muñoz, “to gain accessibility for all pedestrians, but especially for older people.”
The pavement of the sidewalk presented difficulties due to its poor grip, especially on rainy days, so it has been replaced with non-slip paving stones. “We have been able to verify that the existing slope of the section and the current material can cause slips and falls and hence the decision to change it,” explained Muñoz.
The action does not entail the renewal of pipes and conduits, so it has had a short execution period. “It is a rapid action that affects this government's commitment to complete accessibility and improvement of sustainable mobility. With this change of sidewalk, the street experiences a noticeable improvement from which all the people who pass through there will benefit,” added the councilor, who has also announced that a similar action will be carried out on Alfonso Puchades Avenue.
For her part, the Councilor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer, recalled that neighbors usually make many proposals regarding accessibility in the streets, which is why she has once again “encouraged all citizens to formulate these proposals and others for taking into account in the participatory budgets until next October 30."
