The victims are two women, aged 28 and 45, allegedly murdered by their respective partners

Benidorm expresses its rejection of the last two sexist crimes confirmed in Lleida and Girona

05 February 2024
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council showed this Monday its rejection and condemnation of the last two sexist crimes confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, with a silent rally in the Town Hall square, which has been led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer. Numerous members of the municipal Corporation have also participated in it to show the unanimous rejection of these murders committed in the provinces of Lleida and Girona.

The first of the victims was 28 years old and was allegedly murdered at the hands of her partner on June 15, although it has not been until now that the investigation has shed light on the crime and has framed it as a new case of violence. against women. With this murder, the number of women whose lives were killed by their partners or ex-partners during 2023 rises to 58.

The other victim for whom silence has been kept is a 45-year-old woman allegedly murdered on January 27 by her ex-partner in the town of Torroella de Montgrí (Girona). Thus, so far this year, two women have lost their lives as a result of sexist violence. Since 2003, the year in which victims began to be counted, 1,242 women have been murdered by gender violence.

The Department of Equality, whose delegate is Councilor Ángela Zaragozí, recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the cell phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
