Benidorm expands the municipal fleet of sustainable vehicles with a new 100% electric tourism
Benidorm City Council has expanded the municipal fleet of sustainable vehicles with the acquisition of a new 100% electric tourism that will be used by the Engineering area. The purchase of this vehicle has been subsidized with 14.999 euros by the Provincial Council of Alicante, as indicated by the Councilor for Mobility and Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate. With this vehicle are already five electric or hybrid vehicles incorporated into the municipal fleet, most of them used by the Local Police.
De Zárate has pointed out that "from the City we preach by example and progressively we are incorporating hybrid or electric cars to the municipal mobile fleet within our strategy of promoting sustainable mobility, which is evident in the 'renting' contracts that the City Council for the acquisition of vehicles for the Local Police and also in contracts linked to concessions of services such as maintenance of buildings or parks and gardens in which we demand from companies that a high percentage of their fleet is sustainable ".
In this regard, he noted that "the latest contract of 'renting' of police vehicles published recently states that the cars of three of the six tenders have to be electric or hybrid, so in a short time the mobile park of the City Council will have with seven more sustainable vehicles. "
To these are added the vehicles that the municipal concessionary companies have been incorporating. Thus, half of the 16 maintenance service vehicles in the parks and gardens are 100% electric, while the rest comply with the parameters for reducing CO2 emissions. The concessionaire of the water incorporated a few months ago five new ecological vehicles; while the regulated parking service has two 100% electric and four street cleaning and waste collection. In addition, the bicycle loan service has an electric car for the maintenance of the bases and terminals; and part of the building maintenance service fleet is also sustainable.
With regard to the beaches, the bases of the contract established the obligation that the fleet be composed of more efficient vehicles, with lower consumption, lower noise pollution and lower CO2 emissions.
More recharge points
The councilman of Mobility and Environment have indicated that in parallel to the acquisition of sustainable vehicles, the City Council "is increasing the charging points for hybrid and electric cars." To the four points already installed in different areas of the city (in L'Aigüera -in front of City Hall-, Jaime I, Alfonso Puchades and Mediterráneo) will soon join other three that will give service to the health centers, "thus fulfilling a plenary agreement. " De Zárate has clarified that "the procedures for the installation of these points near the health centers of La Cala and Rincón de Loix are practically completed," while the implementation of the charging point at the health center of Tomás Ortuño will be made within the works of the third phase of pedestrianization of this road that are already underway.
