The deadline to register in the registry and request participation in this process ends next January 30

Benidorm encourages EU citizens to register to vote in the European Parliament elections in June

17 January 2024
Benidorm anima a los ciudadanos de la UE a empadronarse para poder votar en las elecciones al Parlamento Europeo de junio

Benidorm City Council, through the Departments of Citizenship Participation and Foreign Residents, has launched a call to residents of the European Union who live in Benidorm and are not registered to register in the city for the celebration. of the next elections to the European Parliament, which will be held on June 9, 2024. The councillors of both areas, Ana Pellicer and Jaime Jesús Pérez, have recalled that all citizens of EU member countries have the right to participate in elections who are registered and who have expressed their willingness to exercise the right to vote in Spain, filling out a formal declaration in which they request their inclusion in the electoral roll of each municipality.

Likewise, both councillors have recalled that the deadline set by the European Union to complete both procedures ends on January 30, which is why they have encouraged all interested parties to go to the Benidorm City Council to register in the registry if they haven't done it yet.

Regarding the request to be able to exercise the right to vote, the National Institute of Statistics explains that community voters who have been previously registered on the electoral roll will remain registered until they request their exclusion or proceed to their exclusion for having ceased to meet the requirements for the exercise of the right to active suffrage. In the case of not having previously participated in any appointment with the polls, the process includes the possibility of registering in two ways. On the one hand, at the electronic headquarters of the National Statistics Institute (INE), at the address: https://sede.ine.gob.es/manifestacionVotoPermanente/presentacion

To do this, it will be necessary to prove your identity through the Cl@ve system and also that the INE has received your Foreigner Identification Number (NIE) from the Central Registry of Foreigners. On the other hand, there is also the possibility of doing so at the Town Hall of residence, by completing the formal declaration form (DFA model) available in all town halls which can also be downloaded from the INE Electronic Website, in the same link.

In the municipal elections of May 2023, the number of European citizens residing in Benidorm who exercised their right to vote amounted to 1,392 people.
