Benidorm demolishes the loading dock of Paseo de Tamarindos to improve access to the beach
The mayor regretted that the delay and "the conditions of the Ministry" have delayed the action
Benidorm City Council is undertaking the demolition of the loading dock of Paseo de Tamarindos to improve access to the beach, in turn eliminating the old ramp that "was used for loading and unloading machinery and has been in disuse for years". This has been explained by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who together with those responsible for Urban Space and Beaches, José Ramón González de Zárate and Mónica Gómez, have verified the progress of the work, which is being carried out by the municipal brigades.
Pérez has pointed out that "this improvement action has the approval of the Provincial Coastal Service of Alicante" and "will release a stretch of sand for bathers, while avoiding the risk of falls for people who walk through this Tamarindos stretch by eliminating the unevenness that existed”.
The mayor added that "with the removal of this disused loading dock and ramp, we also improve the image and aesthetics of Paseo de Tamarindos, in which various actions have been carried out in recent years aimed at gaining space for pedestrians , becoming a very busy area.
It was a "historic and disused" pier that posed a "misleading" access to the beach. Pérez explained that the action, "we had it in our heads for a long time, but it required the authorization of the General Directorate of Coasts".
Once the necessary permit is granted, the work will be completed shortly "and allows us to reach Easter with this better urbanized area with more space and safety for bathers and passers-by." In the mayor's opinion, they are "small details that ultimately make Benidorm offer an image of modernity and investment in everyday life."
With this action, Pérez continued, "we gain in aesthetics and accessibility", as well as "a stretch of sand is freed up for bathers". Toni Pérez has also announced that the procedures have been started "to introduce a footbath in the area and make it possible for this corner of Poniente beach to be more useful".
The mayor, finally, lamented that this project "generated in this legislature, has experienced" many problems to be able to act "as a result of the conditioning factors of the Ministry. "The reality is that we cannot do anything that is not authorized and discussed and sometimes part of the projects in which we work for beautification and accessibility are lost" he concluded.
