Benidorm condemns the latest sexist crime committed on a 22-year-old woman in Utrera
Benidorm municipal corporation has today expressed its condemnation with a minute of silence for the latest victim of gender violence, a 22-year-old woman of Nicaraguan nationality, who was murdered on Monday, July 31, in the Seville town of Utrera.
Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España has hosted this silent rally that has been led by the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the Corporation.
The woman was found with a severe blow to the head and the Civil Guard arrested her 43-year-old husband, who was hiding somewhere in the town. Neither the woman nor her husband were included in the Comprehensive Monitoring System in cases of gender violence, known as VoGen.
With this there are already 32 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,216 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted.
The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
