The Department of Equality, the free telephone number 016 to help victims is reminded

Benidorm condemns the latest crime of sexist violence in Girona, which brings the number of women murdered to 30 in 2022

23 September 2022
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has celebrated a minute of silence this afternoon at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España to condemn the latest crime of sexist violence registered this week in the province of Girona. With this silent concentration led by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, the city has shown its rejection of this social scourge, which so far this year has already resulted in the murder of 30 women hands of their partners or ex-partners. Since 2003, the year in which the victims began to be counted, there are already 1,160 women murdered.

The last victim, aged 21, was allegedly murdered by her partner this Wednesday in the Girona town of Campdevànol. Police investigations indicate that the young woman would have died from the blows that her partner, a 35-year-old man with a history of mistreatment of other women, would have given her.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
