Benidorm concludes the infrastructure renovation works on Severo Ochoa street with the paving of the road

17 April 2023
Benidorm concluye las obras de renovación de infraestructuras en la calle Severo Ochoa con el asfaltado de la vía.

Benidorm City Council will conclude this week the infrastructure renovation and accessibility improvement works on Severo Ochoa Avenue and Ciudad Real Street, with the execution of the milling and asphalting works on the road, which has already begun. The works in Severo Ochoa cover the section between Ciudad Real and Toledo streets and will continue until the weekend.

This action has entailed the renovation of all the street services, in addition to having brought about a notable improvement in the urban scene and the aesthetics of the street. The Councilor for Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, specified in this regard that "all the renovation works on the drinking water pipes, suppression of aerial wiring, improvement of accessibility, trees, and lighting were finished before Easter. The only thing that needs to be done is the asphalt, which has to be finished now, once the holidays are over.”

Regarding the pavement, the installed sidewalks are a continuation of those already placed in the section that runs from Zamora Street to Ciudad Real. Likewise, the drinking water pipes, which were made of fiber cement, the electrical wiring, and the aerial telephone wiring have been removed to bury them. "I think that very good work has been done that has greatly improved the area," said the mayor.

"Our objective was to have an avenue in the best conditions because it is one of the accesses to Benidorm from Levante and towards Rincón de Loix and it was very necessary to undertake these improvements" explained González de Zárate, who added that "it has also been placed new trees, accessibility in the sidewalk lugs and accessibility at the bus stop have been improved so that users of public and discretionary transport can now go out on the street and it is adapted for people with reduced mobility”.

The improvements on the avenue have also included, the councilor specified, the intervention of the IDAE II plan, which has led to "the change of lights and lampposts throughout the Levante area, Rincón de Loix, and the orchard area". The new lampposts are a "very similar" model to the existing one on Beniardá Avenue.

González de Zárate indicated that with the execution of these works "we have tried to disturb as little as possible." He also recalled that the City Council intended to have started the work before last December "but for this, it was necessary to remove the medium voltage electricity wires and we needed permission from the Department, which was delayed." On the other hand, it has also been necessary to modify the electrical line for the placement of a fast charger for vehicles on the sidewalk in front of the one that is being acted on.

The work has been financed by Hidraqua Investment Fund, the dealer of the Water Cycle, while those relating to telephone and electrical wiring have been carried out by the supply companies themselves.
