The project follows the same line of work carried out on the section between Esperanto and Europa with new paving and improvements to the sewer and stormwater network

Benidorm completes renovation work on the water infrastructure on Ibiza Street

18 June 2025
Benidorm finaliza las obras de renovación de infraestructuras hidráulicas en la calle Ibiza

The City Council will now begin drafting the project to continue the renovation of the section between Murcia and Filipinas streets

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Water Cycle, has completed the renovation of the water infrastructure on Ibiza Street, specifically the section of road that runs from Avenida Europa to Calle Murcia. These works complement the work completed before Easter on the other side of Avenida Europa, up to Calle Esperanto.

This work has involved the renovation of the sewer system, as well as preparing the road for various services and the incorporation of a rainwater collection system that did not exist before. The street also features improvements to the sidewalks, paving, furniture, trees, and accessibility.

Currently, project managers and workers are putting the finishing touches and removing material so that the road will be completely clear tomorrow. While this work has not resulted in traffic closures, the work has impacted pedestrian use of the street and narrowed lanes.

Mayor Toni Pérez visited the area this morning to check the final status of the work, accompanied by José Ramón González de Zárate, Councilor for Water Cycle, and Francis Muñoz, Councilor for Public Space, as well as representatives from Hidraqua, the concessionaire that carried out the work with funds from the Renewal Funds. Pérez indicated that the work was carried out because the section of the street "showed signs of wear after several decades of lack of intervention." This had led to "continuous breakdowns and interventions by the municipal service," according to the mayor, who specified that "it was decided to act to definitively put an end to these problems and as a complementary work to the work completed a few months ago on another section on this same street."

Toni Pérez also emphasised that "we have fulfilled our promise that the work would be completed before the summer" and stressed that once the work is complete, "the street has improved accessibility and safety, and the sidewalks are aesthetically in keeping with the urban environment of the area." In this regard, the mayor emphasised that this project "leaves everything ready to add other underground services when necessary."

Furthermore, the City Council continues to work on the future of this street and has already begun the initial steps to draft the project to renew the water infrastructure on this same street, specifically the section between Murcia and Filipinas streets, "to execute it as soon as possible and with the same characteristics as the two sections we have already completed," the mayor concluded.
