Benidorm completes the project of Sequia Mare Park including a footbridge linking Els Tolls and the Palau
The City Council asks the Provincial Council for a nominative grant to execute the project for its tourist and strategic value

Benidorm Town Hall has completed the construction of the Parc la Séquia Mare by including the footbridge that will connect the neighborhood Els Tolls with the sports area of the Palau d'Esports, saving the ravine of Derramador, an action included in the participative budget of 2017.
The Local Government Board has approved this completed project, which also includes an increase in gardening and now the City Council is going to refer the Diputación de Alicante with the aim of obtaining funds with which to finance its implementation. In fact, Benidorm will request a nominative subsidy for the total cost of the project, just over 983,000 euros.
The proposal of the mayor, Toni Pérez, emphasizes that the Parc de la Séquia Mare is "a strategic municipal project from the tourist point of view, both for its historical and sporting aspects". In this respect, he recalls that in the surroundings of this green space are located the last vestiges in public ground of the Rec Major de l'Alfàs - the so-called Sequia Mare - that made possible the refoundation of Benidorm, and already put in value in 2016.
Moreover, this green area of more than 70,000 square meters is revealed as an ideal space for sports, as circuits and pedestrian paths and cyclists have been designed that will be a pole of attraction for an increasingly emerging market: Sports tourism
The mayor said that apart from boosting sports tourism, the Parc de la Séquia Mare will also allow "to give continuity and permeability to the urban fabric respecting the configuration and environmental nature of the environment, creating safe pedestrian routes to the sports and school zones of Leap of Water, and generate new healthy spaces for residents and tourists. "
The project, now expanded and drafted by the municipal technicians, provides for the creation of several recreational and sports areas, linked together by a series of footpaths and cyclists perfectly integrated in the environment and which rely, in most cases, on the terraces and existing platforms so that the condition to the natural environment is minimal ". It also provides a play area for young people, children and adults with elements such as zip lines, three-dimensional network or climbing circuit; a playground for children; and ecoparque and multi-adventure zone with walkways, ropes, nets and other elements made largely of trees coming from pruning. These zones will be executed with laminated wood for their "perfect integration" in the environment.
In addition to act in the pinewood, the project plans to do so in the vicinity skate park built last year, just to complete this with a 'bowl' -battle- requested by the young people. There will also be several paths that will join the new spaces with the point where there is projected a gateway connecting with the neighborhood Els Tolls across Italy street.
Initially, the technicians had prepared the project for a first phase of construction, valued at about 467,000 euros and with which it was hoped to get a maximum aid of 280,000 euros within the call of the Provincial Council for financially sustainable projects. Now, with the new project and taking into account its strategic value in the tourist area, a nominative subsidy is sought for the total amount.
