Benidorm commemorates the 698th anniversary of its foundation
On May 8, it will be 698 years since Almirall Bernat de Sarrià granted the Town Charter to Benidorm, thus marking the foundation of the current tourist capital of the Mediterranean. As every year, the Grup Carta de Poblament, with the support of the Department of Festivals and Culture of the Benidorm City Council and the Associació de Penyes
On this occasion, the commemoration of the founding of the city is concentrated into three acts. The first will be tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3, with a concert by the Unión Musical Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Rafa Gómez, in the Town Hall Assembly Hall at 8:00 p.m.
Then, on Saturday, the 6th, at 9:00 p.m. at Plaça de Sant Jaume, there will be a representation of the granting of the Poblament Charter, based on the text by Professor Pasqual Almiñana in which members of the Grup and supporters' clubs participate. The journalist Sergi Castillo will act as the maintainer.
To close this commemoration, the City Council will celebrate on the 8th, the anniversary of the founding of Benidorm, an institutional plenary session at noon chaired by the mayor, Toni Pérez.
In parallel and as a complement to these events, Elche Park will host 'Medieval Benidorm', with a hundred stalls and countless shows and animations. This initiative promoted by the Department of Fiestas and Commerce together with AICO and the company Legend Especialistas will take place from Thursday, May 4 to Sunday, May 7.
Thus, during the weekend 'Benidorm Medieval' will offer recreational and leisure activities including musical performances, street entertainment, children's games, the aforementioned medieval market, and a thematic decoration that will transport visitors to the year 1325. In addition, the little ones will have children's attractions, a corner with game tables, and a large playroom. There will also be trade workshops and a 'photocall'.
