Benidorm commemorates next week the anniversary of its founding, materialized 696 years ago through the Town Charter granted by l'Almirall Bernat de Sarrià on May 8, 1325. To commemorate this anniversary, several cultural events have been organized, coordinated by the Department of Festivities and organized together with the area of Culture, the Grup Carta de Poblament and the Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge', and in which all health security measures have been foreseen.
The Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, has indicated that “last year this commemoration coincided with the lock down, so the city experienced this event virtually through the YouTube and Facebook channels of the City Council where recordings were broadcast of the representations that the Grup Carta de Poblament and CEIP Ausiàs March students carry out annually ”. "Fortunately - he added - the health situation is currently more favorable, which allows us to recover some of the traditional acts of this anniversary and experience them in person and adapted to health regulations."
Thus, on May 8, at 7:00 p.m., the granting of the Town Charter will be performed, in which the members of the group of the same name and supporters participate, and which will be held in Julio Iglesias auditorium in Parque de l 'Aigüera with capacity limited to 50% of the enclosure's capacity. Carrobles explained that "it has been chosen to move the event to this location because the venue is adapted to health regulations, offers a lot of security to the public and has a larger stage to favor the distance between the actors." The representation itself has also been adapted to current circumstances and will feature a smaller cast.
The maintainer of this act will be the architect Francisco José Llinares Martí, from Benidorm, a member of the ‘Barrina’ family. The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councillor of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, held a meeting today with Llinares Martí; the president of the Penyes Association, Adrián Romero; and members of the Grup Carta de Poblament, in which the latest details of the events scheduled for the 696 anniversary of the founding of Benidorm have been outlined.
A concert by the Societat Musical La Nova is scheduled for Sunday in the same auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
In addition to these cultural events, an institutional plenary session will be held on Saturday at noon. Also within this commemoration, the Castell will be illuminated on Saturday in blue and white, the colors of Benidorm; while the Tossal and the façade of the Town Hall will be in blue.
