The pavement of the sidewalks will be homogeneous and non-slip to prevent falls in episodes of rain
Benidorm carries out works to improve accessibility and renews the sewage system and lighting in the neighborhood of El Campo
The neighbourhood of El Campo will soon see the accessibility of its streets improved thanks to the works being carried out by the Benidorm City Council. Mayor Toni Pérez and the councillors for Citizen Participation and Public Space, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González de Zárate, travelled to the area this morning as part of the 'A pie de calle' campaign, a visit in which they were accompanied by the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario and residents of the neighbourhood.
The action that is being developed is due to the lack of accessibility at the zebra crossings of some streets, whose sidewalks have very high curbs. "It is a very important work that comes to solve an accessibility problem for people" explained the mayor.
Pérez also recalled that all the lights in the neighbourhood are being changed to have LED technology and remote management systems thanks to a grant from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) "It was one of the demands of the residents of this neighbourhood and with this, we are solving an important problem for them” he said.
The intervention will also entail the placement of the new non-slip pavement on the sidewalks because the current one is very old and shows deterioration in some areas. The new pavement will be grey and yellow to make it homogeneous with the existing one and will cover from the confluence of Marqués de Comillas with Almendros to Maravall street.
It is also planned to implement the single platform on some roads "to have full accessibility" and on other streets, such as Alcalde Agustín Navarro Alvado, vehicles will be able to continue entering "but with complete accessibility for pedestrians".
On the other hand, the City Council has also requested a subsidy from the Provincial Council of Alicante "to renew and repair the sewer system". “In this way, we will have a new fibre pipe with better features” the mayor specified. The action, he continued, "has a somewhat higher cost, but at the same time it is much faster and more comfortable for the neighbours".
“We arrived with a clear political and management action but knowing that there is always a lot to do. We do it with a plan to address infrastructures and works in those points where the actions are most pressing. In short, provide solutions to problems based on their magnitude” concluded the mayor.
