Benidorm asks for a grant to the Provincial Goverment to remodel Atmella del Mar Avenue

13 February 2017
Benidorm solicita una subvención a Diputación para remodelar la avenida Atmella del Mar

The work is valued at 2.3 million euros and includes the renovation of sidewalks, roadway and subsoil services

The Advisory Council of Urban Scene agrees to the partial demolition of the former Burguer King of Nicaragua Avenue, and addresses the project to urbanize the Vials of Sierra Helada

Benidorm Clty Council has applied for inclusion in the Provincial Plan for Cooperation to the Works and Services of municipal competition for 2017 of the Diputación de Alicante, in order to obtain a grant to remodel the avenue of Atmella del Mar. The project, drafted By the municipal technicians, is valued at 2.3 million euros, and contemplates acting in a stretch of about a kilometer between Mediterranean Avenue and Zamora Street.

The Urban Scene Advisory Council - which includes the groups of the corporation, municipal technicians, and representatives of business and neighborhood associations - Monday addressed the details of the project, which includes the renovation of sidewalks, roadway and subsurface services , And for which it is expected to be able to obtain from the Diputación a total of 450,000 euros from the Diputación, which is the maximum eligible amount of the Plan.

The councilor of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate said that "it is necessary to renovate this avenue since the sidewalks are very worn, we have problems in the road and the infrastructure is in very poor condition." Thus, "potable water pipes have insufficient capacity, the network of waste is very worn, and the rainwater has little capacity and does not prevent flooding when it rains with a certain intensity."

On the surface, the project proposes to renovate and expand sidewalks with anti-slip concrete tiles, the milling and asphalting of the roadway, the replacement of street lamps with LED technology, the replacement of horizontal and vertical signage, and the planting of trees . In the subsoil, it provides for the rehabilitation and improvement of existing collectors and the construction of several new, as well as replacement of drinking water pipes that are in poor condition and their mesh.

In addition to this remodeling project, other points have been addressed in the Urban Scene Advisory Council. Among them, the application of license of demolition that has presented the mercantil that ran Burguer King of the Nicaragua avenue, next to the graveyard Virgen del Sufragio. Although the project contemplated the total demolition of the buildings on the plot, the Council approved that the demolition be partial and the toilets of the old establishment be maintained to serve the cemetery, integrating within the projected green area. The cost of the total demolition project presented by the company was 57,060.08 euros. The merchant will assume the agreed partial demolition, although it will be necessary to adjust the budget.

Likewise, it has been noticed the consolidated project of works that complete the urbanization of the Murtal II sector, presented by the Compensation Board - former figure of the developer agent - and whose works are being executed; And the project elaborated by the municipal technicians for the urbanization of the vials of Sierra Helada. Specifically, these are the streets of Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Taiwan and Tokyo.

Councilor for Urban Development, Lourdes Caselles, explained that "these streets do not have a municipal sanitation network, and that of drinking water is inadequate and does not reach all points of the planned building." In addition, "the vials lack public lighting and sidewalks, the electric power grid is insufficient for the demand of the area, and the paving is precarious and the roadway is in poor condition."

"We have drafted this project to try to make this area urbanize as soon as possible, and at no cost to the City Council, as these works are going to be assumed by the owners of the streets," he added.

The total cost of this development project is valued at 4.5 million euros.
