The work starts with a tender budget of 2.5 million euros

Benidorm approves the project for a sustainable urban drainage system in Salto del Agua park and ride

05 April 2022
Ciclo del Agua

Salto del Agua park and ride will have a sustainable urban drainage system that will provide a platform with an efficient rainwater management chain on the plot itself, on which the aforementioned car park will be located.

The Local Government Board (JGL) of Benidorm City Council agreed yesterday to approve the proposal of the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, to give the green light to the project, which has a budget of 2.5 million euros.

In this regard, the mayor Toni Pérez has indicated that "we have believed it necessary to invest in one of the main entrances to the city, specifically in the plot located between Barca del Bou street and  Comunidad Europea Avenue to execute an urban system of sustainable drainage.

Pérez has emphasized the "permanent commitment" of the local government to improve water management, which, in this case, "we also make compatible and complementary with the creation of completely free surface parking spaces". The first mayor has recalled that for years the City Council "we have been working to integrate mobility planning with economic growth and sustainable development policies and one of the premises is the more rational use of private cars in daily journeys."

To this end, several park-and-ride parking spaces have been created to reduce road traffic in the city, such as those located on Beniardá-Estación TRAM Avenue and the Bus Station. "These are actions have been a success and have already been verified so we are going to continue along these lines" added the mayor.

In this way, we provide facilities and improve public facilities and at the same time we take advantage of this project to improve the efficiency in the drainage of rainwater and its connection with the ravine that circulates in parallel” he added.

In the case of this project, which already has favourable technical reports, it will be submitted to public information for twenty days and will be sent to the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ), the Alicante Roads Unit and the Water Consortium of the Marina Baixa to issue reports and obtain authorization for their execution.

The project has been prepared by Hidraqua and it details the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of the drainage system and the park and ride. Thus, in addition to the clearing and demolition work and the levelling of the platform on which the car park will go, the channelling of the existing section of the ravine coincides with the area and connection with the channelling downstream of it will also be addressed.

The project includes the execution of drainage systems for episodes of heavy rains, public lighting with 'led' technology, access control and parking management installations, civil works for future installations of the City Council's 'smart city', gardening and irrigation, using asphalt agglomerate for paving, permeable paving in the drainage bands and green areas. The last actions planned will be the replacement signage and beaconing.
