Sports associations and clubs promoting the participation of women and girls in their teams will be eligible to apply for grants of up to €20,000 per club
Benidorm City Council has launched a €100,000 grant scheme aimed at promoting women’s sport by providing financial support to local sports associations and clubs with teams made up of girls, teenagers or women, and/or those running programmes to encourage, promote and expand sports participation among this group.
Councillor for Sports Javier Jordá announced today that applications are now open, following approval of the grant regulations by the Local Government Board and their publication yesterday in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante.
Interested associations and clubs have 15 calendar days from today to submit all the required documentation. Applications can be filed in person at Benidorm City Council’s General Registry or online through the municipal e-government portal.
Javier Jordá explained that the City Council “has been working for some time to promote and facilitate women’s access to sport through various municipal programmes and in collaboration with local sports clubs, which are once again the intended beneficiaries of this grant scheme”.
He stressed that eligible recipients are “clubs registered in the City Council’s Municipal Register of Sports Organisations”. Each club may receive a grant of up to €20,000. The regulations also stipulate that funding must be allocated in accordance with the principles of publicity, transparency, competitive allocation, objectivity, equality and non-discrimination.
Eligible activities, projects and programmes must focus on promoting and encouraging non-professional women’s sport and be consistent with the City Council’s overall sports policy. They must also be organised by entities registered in the Municipal Register of Sports Organisations.
As in previous years, a technical committee will assess all applications. The evaluation criteria will include the club’s length of operation, the number of registered athletes, the organisation of sporting activities, cooperation with the Department of Sports on events and activities, and expenses related to federation fees, refereeing and travel for women’s teams.
Clubs and organisations applying for funding must be legally established and have been registered with the municipal register for at least one year. They must be non-profit organisations, up to date with their tax obligations and have properly accounted for any grants received in previous years.
Activities already scheduled by the Department of Sports are excluded, as are direct, individually allocated grants to organisations and clubs that have already been awarded such funding.
