The City Council is moving forward with the renewal of the Local Police fleet, with new motorcycles and an accident investigation van due to arrive shortly
Benidorm City Council plans to acquire a new vessel for the Local Police Maritime Unit. Councillor Jesús Carrobles made the announcement today for Public Safety Jesús Carrobles, who explained that “the procurement process for the new vessel has already been launched. It will serve as a fully equipped platform for police and emergency operations, capable of responding to rescue situations, transporting people, assisting other vessels and carrying out extended operations at sea”.
Carrobles recalled that “the current vessel has been in service for almost two decades and has been used intensively, particularly during the summer months. This explains why maintenance issues and breakdowns have become increasingly frequent in recent years, to the point where repairs are no longer cost-effective”. He also noted that the vessel “was not originally designed to cover all the duties and services it has ultimately been required to perform in surveillance, lifesaving and rescue operations”.
The new vessel, by contrast, “will be equipped with all the necessary technical features and state-of-the-art systems to provide the best possible police service, ultimately benefiting the public”. The specifications include a length of 7.5 metres, capacity for 10 people in addition to the crew, and a non-slip deck to facilitate rescue operations.
Carrobles stressed that “this new vessel will improve officer safety, response capabilities and the operational availability of the Maritime Unit”.
He also emphasised that “we continue to make progress on our commitment to renewing the Local Police vehicle fleet”. The new incident investigation van and eight recently purchased high-powered motorcycles are expected to be delivered shortly, following the Local Government Board’s award of both contracts today. These vehicles will be joined by 10 additional 125 cc scooters, which are also currently undergoing the procurement process.
