The city of Benidorm anticipates the celebration of the European Mobility Week with the third edition of Benimov Experience, the event on urban mobility, vehicles and sustainable technology that starts this afternoon with the welcome ceremony at 8:00 p.m. and will last until next Sunday, September 11.

Promoted and organized by the City Council, the Independent Association of Merchants of Benidorm (AICO) and the consulting firm CHao, this event combines a sustainable vehicle fair and a debate forum, and will host "the pilot test in a closed circuit of the autonomous vehicle developed by the Galician Automotive Technology Center (CTAG), as pointed out by the mayor of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate.

All the details about the operation of this autonomous vehicle without a driver will be presented in one of the round tables of the Benimov forum, as indicated yesterday by the head of CHao, Antonio Pérez, during the Mobility Advisory Council, where he advanced that "when the time comes ” and the pertinent permits from the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) are available. Benidorm will host “the first open-circuit pilot test” of this 'shuttle'. An extreme is confirmed by the Councilor for Mobility, who pointed out that "Benidorm in terms of mobility is configured as a testing laboratory that has aroused the interest of many brands and technology centres that want to test their prototypes in our city."

The closed test circuit for the CTAG autonomous vehicle will open this Friday at noon in Plaza SSMM Reyes de España and interested people will be able to test how it works; while the fair and its 12 exhibitors will be located on Avenida del Mediterráneo, a road that is "already a benchmark for mobility", according to De Zárate. At the Mediterráneo showcase, visitors will be able from 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, until Sunday afternoon, to learn about the proposals for electric vehicles from some of the main automotive brands and drive these vehicles, including a Tesla.

Prior to the opening of the fair, the Benimov Experience forum will take place, which begins this Friday at 09:30 a.m. and which, through three round tables, two thematic debates and two conferences, will address and analyze the latest trends in matters such as sustainability, water, energy, mining, mobility, regulation and charging networks, smart cities and innovation.

In this second edition of the Benimov Experience forum, the presence and participation of local assets has been promoted -such as technicians from the City Council, the Dinapsis centre, businessmen and the pilot Miguel Fuster-, who will share space and debate with national leaders and leaders of companies and entities.

Among the speakers is the engineer and futurist José Luis Cordeiro, who, in addition to taking part in one of the debates, will be in charge of the closing conference, entitled 'Towards energy singularity: "Energularity"'.

The Councilor for Mobility has indicated that "the program for this third edition of Benimov confirms that the event is gaining strength and generating expectation and interest among companies, entities and the academic world linked to sustainability management and planning, mainly from the perspective of mobility”; and added that "without a doubt, it is the best way to kick off and enter the European Mobility Week, which begins throughout the continent on September 16 and for which different initiatives are planned that will be presented in the following days".

After inviting citizens to live the Benimov Experience, the mayor recalled that last year Benidorm won the prize for the best mobility of the European Mobility Week among populations of 50,000 to 150,000 inhabitants. "We are a city in which we strongly believe in mobility, the preservation of the environment and climate change, and the evidence is there to prove it", he concluded.
