In recent weeks, two new public car parks have been opened on Calle Lérida and Avenida Comunidad Valenciana

The City Council begins the works on Virgen del Rocío street to organize traffic before the works on Beniardá avenue

Benidorm City Council will complete 400 free public parking spaces in the Levante area with the opening in the coming days of a new car park on Jaén street, with a capacity for almost a hundred vehicles (95 spaces).

This car park joins those opened in recent weeks on Lérida street (200 spaces) and Comunidad Valenciana avenue (100 spaces) and is located in the final section of Jaén street, between Cuenca and Mallorca streets, in a plot of 2,600 square meters of surface.

In the two previous cases and now, the City Council has reached an agreement with the owner of the plot to tidy up the land and to be used it as public parking. "It is a formula that allows us to add more places in different areas of the city in the commitment to sustainable mobility that we started years ago," said the mayor Toni Pérez.

The works have already begun, as explained by Pérez, “so that in about two weeks it will be open and available to users”. The plot has inside the rubble of a house that was demolished, so much of the work will be dedicated to crushing and turning these remains into gravel that will serve as the pavement for the new car park.

“On this plot, we had received many complaints from neighbours, who asked for more cleaning. That is why we reached an agreement with the property to be able to adapt it and add more free public parking spaces”, said the mayor.

Once the work is finished, the plot will have its corresponding entry and exit ford, as well as exterior lighting and new paint and signage. The first mayor has highlighted the new image offered by Jaén Street after the actions carried out in recent months. “In the section of the Cultural Center, we have implemented a road with no sidewalk for pedestrian priority. In the next one, we have left car parks in line and in the final part, we have created this new free car park to continue gaining spaces in the Levante area” Pérez indicated.

The commissioning of these 400 new free public parking spaces in Levante coincides with the work to bury Beniardá Avenue. An avenue that will be closed to traffic in its upper part on September 12 and for 10 months, which forces the usual traffic entering and exiting this road to be diverted to Juan Pablo II Avenue in Poniente and Comunidad Avenue European in Levante.

The councillor of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has pointed out that "by enabling these free car parks we are generating new parking spaces to serve those vehicles of workers from other localities that until now used the park and ride on Beniardá Avenue".

De Zárate explained that "in parallel to the fitting out of new car parks, works have also begun to adapt several streets in Els Tolls and Colonia Madrid to the alternative itinerary that is going to be given to residents and emergency vehicles to access Benidorm by Camí del Llandero”.

As he has recalled, while the burying works in Beniardá are in progress, residents and emergency vehicles will be able to access Benidorm via Camino del Llandero, which will be configured as a one-way entrance. Once on Italia street, vehicles will be able to travel to Virgen del Rocío street, which will become a two-way street, and from there via Aigüera avenue and Orxeta street, exit to Beniardá avenue.

Non-residents can get to the Fairground car park following the following itinerary: Comunidad Europea avenue, Alfonso Puchades, Andalucía and Italia street until they reach Virgen del Rocío.

At the moment, work is already being done on Virgen del Rocío street to configure it as a two-way street. This street will remain closed to traffic until Friday, reopening during the end of the week. As of Monday, the works will focus on Italia street.
