Benidorm will soon have a new Espai d’Art Urbà in the surroundings of Elche Park, in the old fishing district, taking advantage of the stairs that connect Sant Pere street with the promenade. This was announced by the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, in a new meeting with neighborhood associations framed within the campaign ‘A pie de calle’.
Pellicer, together with the Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, met this morning with representatives of Poniente and Plaza España-El Campo associations and with members of the Neighborhood Council, including the vice presidents, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notary. The meeting responded to one of the most recurrent requests of the neighborhood movement: to bring culture closer to the neighborhoods.
"We continue to bet - Pellicer said - to transform the city into a great open-air museum." Hence the importance of Espai d’Art Urbà which are, has abounded, “a very powerful exhibition element. They contribute to the beautification of our urban scene ”and also, as on this occasion they are“ a claim to keep our toponimy very much alive ”.
All the Espai d’Art Urbà have the name of the  neighborhood where they are located. Following this trend, the new one will be called ‘El Campo’, “in reference - Pellicer clarified - to this traditional neighborhood of our city that was inhabited by fishermen and sailors. A name that has been given, since the beginning of the 19th century, due to its proximity to Mare de Déu del Sofratge cemetery ”.

The new Espai d’Art Urbà will have five backlit mupis, located next to and on the access stairs to the promenade from Sant Pere street. In addition, also "at the initiative of the neighbors", the possibility of carrying out complementary actions "such as the possibility of making a mural or studying the creation of a vertical garden taking advantage of the stairs" will be studied, actions that "are already under study by the Municipal Technical Services ”.

The new Espai d’Art Urbà ‘El Campo’ joins the other open-air museums: El Carrasco, Els Tolls, Ponent, El Pont and Hispanidad. Six main points in six different neighborhoods with a very clear objective: “to turn Benidorm into a great open-air museum that multiplies the attractiveness of the city for residents and visitors”, Pellicer has made clear.
