The beaches revalidate the 'S' for Sustainability, the 'Q' for Quality, the Safe Tourism seal and the Qualitur and Ecoplayas flags

The beaches of Benidorm already show off the quality marks obtained after passing the most demanding audits

19 June 2024
Las playas de Benidorm ya lucen los distintivos de calidad obtenidos tras superar las auditorías más exigentes

The Blue Flag flies again in Levante and Mal Pas, which once again has not been requested for Poniente beach

From today onwards, Benidorm's beaches sport numerous awards that certify their quality and that have been obtained after passing “the most demanding audits” carried out by external organizations such as the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE), the Generalitat Valenciana or the Education Association. Environmental and Consumer. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, have been in charge of raising these badges, along with other members of the Municipal Corporation, responsible for the concessionaire for the comprehensive management of the beaches and users of the same. Flags that, as the first mayor highlighted, “confirm the quality and sustainability of the beaches of Benidorm and all the services provided there.”

Toni Pérez has detailed that the beaches and coves of Benidorm have revalidated the 'Q' for Quality, 'S' for Sustainability and Safe Tourism flags, which are awarded annually by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality, ICTE. To these is also added the Qualitur flag, awarded by the Generalitat, in addition to the Ecoplayas flag, promoted by ATEGRUS, the Technical Association for Waste Management and the Environment, to recognize and distinguish the sandy areas that stand out for their quality policy. environmental.

Likewise, on the beaches of Levante and Mal Pas this year the Blue Flag will fly again, after in 2023 the Benidorm City Council did not present its candidacy to receive these badges from the Environmental and Consumer Education Association. The Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, explained that “this year we have once again requested these two blue flags in Levante and Mal Pas, where the actions that were being carried out last year have already been completed” and added that, on the contrary, “we have continued without opting in Poniente” while waiting for some works that are going to be carried out in the footbaths.

For his part, the mayor has highlighted that all these quality marks "refer to both the bathing area and the sandy areas, as well as the services provided on our beaches, such as lifeguards, cleaning, beach libraries or points of accessible beaches.” Accessible beaches, he added, which in turn comply with “the demanding ISO regulations”, also of an international nature, and which throughout the year allow people with mobility problems to enjoy the beaches of Benidorm and safe bathing. at sea.

Toni Pérez added that these flags are “recognition of the year-long work of the municipal services and the concessionaire that manages the beaches” to offer the best space and the best service, and he has influenced Benidorm's levels of “permanent” self-demand in the care and maintenance of its beaches.

At this point, he recalled that “Benidorm is one of the few coastal cities and destinations with a municipal laboratory”, which allows it to constantly control the quality of the water, sand and footbaths on the beaches. During the high season, the laboratory performs weekly analyses of these three elements, to which are added the controls and audits carried out by other external organizations.

Outside of the high season, the municipal laboratory performs these analyses every two weeks.
