The announcement of Begoña Cano marks the beginning of the festivities of Virgen del Carmen in Benidorm
The celebration of the festivities in honor of Virgen del Carmen in Benidorm began officially yesterday with the announcement by Begoña Cano and the previous mass that took place in San Jaime's church, in which the parish priest José Antonio González proceeded to the blessing and change of the scapular.
The acts began with the collection of authorities in the Casa del Fester, from where they went to the church to attend the religious ceremony. A delegation headed by the Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and members of the local corporation, accompanied by the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla, and Daniela Talavera, and their court of honor, the presidents of the Comissió and the Associació de Penyes, Vicente Solaz, and Ramón Cano, the president of Virgen del Carmen festivities, Ginés Alvarado and representatives of festive entities in the city.
After the mass, Plaza de la Senyoría hosted the announcement, which began with the entrance of the banner carried by Alicia Carretero, who was accompanied by Ginés Alvarado, president of the festivities.
After that, the reception was held for the sailor of honor, Carmen Albarral Pérez, who arrived accompanied by her father and to whom the outgoing sailor of honor, Sofía Fuster, dedicated a few words. The young woman expressed her "thank you" for all the experiences she had this year and wished "all the best to the incoming sailor" and asked the virgin "to protect the people of the sea."
After the imposition on the banner of the bowtie of Festes Majors Patronals by the queens and the president and the tribute paid to Vicente Martínez Rostoll, Begoña Cano read the announcement in which she showed the memories of her relationship with these festivities as a sailor of honor on two occasions. She alluded to the events of the party, the nights of the festival, the wake-up on Sunday "and many anecdotes along the way." "And then the last day arrives, the one with the greatest emotions," she pointed out before recalling that "I have the route of the verse engraved on fire" which she described as "an incredible experience that only those who have been honorary sailors know about". Begoña Cano ended by remembering "those who are no longer here and, especially, my mother."
The event was closed by the Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, who after greeting those present and thanking them for holding the festivities, "congratulated" the people associated with the Carmen festivities and thanked them for keeping long live our traditions. The councillor stated that "holding these festivities is honoring Benidorm and its people" and added that "a town that knows where it comes from will always be better."
