The City Council's Espai d'Art is exhibiting the show until November 30th, which will also be displayed on billboards throughout the city
16 posters from students of Pere Maria Orts i Bosch raise their voices against gender violence
The exhibition is in its ninth edition and is part of the activities organised by the City Council in preparation for November 25th.
The Espai d’Art of Benidorm City Hall is hosting a new exhibition from today until November 30th, dedicated to raising awareness and denouncing gender-based violence. The exhibition features posters created by second-year art students from the IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch high school. The exhibition is part of the activities organised by the Departments of Equality and Culture to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, commemorated on November 25th.
The opening was attended by the councillors for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with Pau Rodríguez, a teacher of Graphic and Plastic Expression Techniques and Artistic Drawing, and Juan Miguel Llorca, the school's vice-principal, as well as students. This ninth edition of the exhibition is supported by the Alicante Provincial Council and the high school's Department of Visual Arts.
The exhibition features a total of sixteen posters, some digital, others with part of the creative process carried out using traditional, analogue methods. Unlike previous editions, there was no specific theme; instead, each student "expressed in their posters how they experience or understand gender violence," Zaragozí explained. This resulted in "very assertive, very direct works" from the students' perspective and was created with a focus on raising awareness."
Zaragozí added that the works will also be displayed "on various advertising panels throughout the city" so that students, families, and anyone else who wishes can view the creations, which "are of high quality" and can be useful for entering the workforce or pursuing higher education, as they demonstrate "what their creators are capable of."
The students' selfless work, in addition to being part of their personal curriculum, has been rewarded by the City Council with vouchers redeemable for reproductions of similar creations to those in the exhibition. Zaragozí emphasised that the exhibition will also be on display at the Pere Maria High School and, subsequently, may "travel to other high schools" in Benidorm upon request.
Pau Rodríguez explained that a total of 17 students participated in creating the exhibition. He described the group as "very talented." "There are," he added, "students with excellent aptitudes for pursuing higher education in design or art."
