The work will last for a month and will be completed before the end of this year

Benidorm invests 600,000 euros in a new paved plan that will improve road safety

17 November 2025
Benidorm invierte 600.000 euros en un nuevo Plan de Asfaltado que mejorará la seguridad del tráfico rodado

Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Urban Scene, will invest €599,738.09 in the implementation of the 2025 Asphalt Plan, which will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within one month. The work will affect roads and highways within the municipality that are in poor condition, with cracks in the pavement or deterioration that makes vehicular traffic uncomfortable and unsafe.

According to the project drawn up by municipal technicians, the plan will focus on the following roads: Avenida de l’Aigüera, Calle Juan Llorca, Calle Londres, Calle Paraguay, Calle La Cala, Calle Vigo, and the CV70 branch near the Red Cross roundabout.

The Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, stated that the city council “has been carrying out maintenance work on the paving of streets and public roads that are in poor condition, and the implementation of this plan is a continuation of other resurfacing projects that have already been undertaken.”

Muñoz announced that the bidding and awarding process for the project will begin in a few days, with the aim of completing the work before the end of this year.

The deterioration of the road surfaces is usually caused by cracks, potholes, and other cracks that significantly affect traffic.” These problems, Muñoz explained, are typically caused by various factors, “including heavy traffic, the quality and age of the road surface, and damage caused by torrential rainwater, among others.”

The councilman pointed out that the City Council carries out work annually “based on needs, budgetary possibilities, the condition and importance of the roads to be addressed, and their impact on traffic.”

According to the project, the various streets where work is planned present all kinds of problems. Among them, the deterioration of the road surface stands out, whether due to potholes or sinkholes, or because the pavement is quite worn.

“In certain sections of the street, the deterioration of the surface is so severe that we have detected it gradually disintegrating,” Francis Muñoz explained. Work will also be carried out on accident black spots within the municipality where traffic accidents frequently occur.

The project includes two solutions for paving the streets.

On the one hand, a comprehensive treatment will be carried out in cases where the street or a section of it has a deteriorated surface exceeding 50%.

Furthermore, targeted repairs will be carried out on potholes and deteriorated areas when the condition of the road surface does not warrant a comprehensive overhaul.

Francis Muñoz also emphasised that all the planned works are located “on publicly owned land,” so the availability of the land to carry them out is “complete.” “This will allow us to adhere to the established deadlines and reduce the time as much as possible.” Finally, Muñoz apologised to residents and drivers who may be affected by the inconvenience caused by these works, “but they must understand that we are doing this to improve road safety and to prevent damage and accidents.”
