The celebration of the tournament is expected to have an impact of 4,000 overnight stays

120 teams and 1,500 players will compete in the IX Costa Blanca Basket Cup 2018 in Benidorm and in the region

25 April 2018
120 equipos y 1.500 jugadores disputarán la IX Costa Blanca Basket Cup 2018 en Benidorm y comarca

This weekend starts the ninth edition of the Costa Blanca Basket Cup that will bring together in Benidorm and four regional sub-districts (Villajoyosa, Altea, La Nucía and l'Alfàs del Pi) to more than 1,500 players from 120 teams from London, Madrid and the Comunitat Valenciana to play a total of 265 games.

The Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, who presented this morning the Basket Cup accompanied by the president of the Benidorm Basketball Club, Antonio Morán and the representative of the organizing company, Mª Carmen Burgos, indicated that the competition will be held throughout for the long weekend of May.

The municipal manager of the Sports area has announced that it is expected "an impact" of more than 4,000 overnight stays these days in our city, in a clear commitment to sports tourism. Regarding the tournament, Cabrillo stressed that it will be a very "good opportunity" to see players "from the best quarries in one of the most important training tournaments on the national and international scene."

As a novelty, the poster announcing this edition has been made by Daniel González Recio, young canterano of the Club Bàsquet l'Alfàs and who has won the prize after the call for the contest to be held for the poster.

Mª Carmen Burgos recalled the beginnings of the Basket Cup in which "10 or 12 teams in children's category" competed and currently will participate "from Benjamines to seniors". Burgos has valued very positively the reception that the tournament has among the lovers of this sport. "It has been very easy contact," he said, "because they practically repeat year after year", in fact many times it is the clubs themselves who "contact us to participate". Finally, Burgos recalled that all the results and minutes can be consulted through the web imminently.

For his part, José Antonio Morán recalled that the Costa Blanca Basket Cup is an event that "is on the front line of national and international tournaments." The president of the Basketball Club Benidorm highlighted that it is played in "an unbeatable setting like the city of Benidorm" and in "excellent" facilities for this sport practice.
