The 'trans' realities of Cuba and Spain meet in Benidorm

The councilor of Equality, Paquita Ripoll, has announced the celebration in Benidorm, next Friday, April 27, of the first International LGTBI Cuba Spain Meeting organized by the LGTB Association of Benidorm, in collaboration with the councils of Equality and Culture. The mayor has been accompanied by Chelo Oliva from ALGTB Benidorm and Carlos Lamm, promoter of the Trans Film Festival of Alicante.

The head of Equality recalled that as a "complementary element of the meeting" from Tuesday 17 can be seen in Espai d'Art hall at the City Hall a photo exhibition, 'Trasncuba' by the Cuban author Paolo Titolo that will remain open until May 3 . Paquita Ripoll indicated that the meeting will begin on the morning of the 27th, at 11.30 "with a guided tour" to the exhibition in which the author and the components of the Cuban delegation will participate.

At 5:00 pm, in the Assembly Hall of the City Council, the opening of the meeting will take place and then the debate table 'Realities Trans: Cuba / Spain' in which the Cuban Mariela Castro, Director of the National Center of Sexual Education ( CENESEX) and daughter of the president of the island, Raúl Castro; Malu Cano, Coordinator of TransCuba; and Isel Calzadilla, coordinator of Las Isabelas Group. The Spanish delegation will be formed by Mar Cambrollé, president of Plataforma Trans España; Natalia Aventín, President of the Association of Families of Transsexual Children (Chrysallis); Toni Poveda, from the State HIV and AIDS Coordinator (CESIDA); Chelo Oliva, from ALGTB Benidorm; and Mª José Rodríguez, vice chancellor of Equality of the University of Alicante (UA).

Subsequently, at 19.15 the short film winner of the First Trans Film Festival of Alicante will be screened. At 19.30 the documentary 'El viaje de Carla' and then there will be a videofórum in which its author, Carla Antonello, currently a member of the Assembly of Madrid will speak.

For his part, Chelo Oliva justified the choice of the theme of the first LGTBI International Meeting in Benidorm "in the commemoration of the Year of Transality in 2018 by the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals (FELGTB)" and the election of the Caribbean country because in it "the trans topic is very up-to-date, very valid", so much "that it has taken a national dimension". In his speech, Carlos Lamm pointed out that Alicante is the first trans film festival in the Spanish language, the fourth of these features held in the European Union and it has projected works from 12 countries "from Australia to Israel and many Latin Americans.
