The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, have closed this midday the sixth edition of the Digital Tourist Congress that Ametic organizes every year in Benidorm. An appointment in which the challenges of digitization were addressed and which has focused on the importance of data for a new generation of destinations.

In his speech, the mayor highlighted several basic aspects of tourism, among which he cited "the environmental, the social and the economic" to summarize that "at the end of all this is talking about the planet, people and prosperity". Pérez advocated "fighting for it" and has praised the value of the Spanish digital industry "which is a great brand, as is the tourism industry."

Both industries, Pérez pointed out, "shake hands and make a great alliance that will be the spearhead wherever we propose it." The first mayor has said goodbye but not before advancing that "we will see each other at the next Digital Tourist, the seventh, in Benidorm.

The president of Ametic, Pedro Mier, for his part, stressed the "hybridization" between the tourism industry and the digital industry "which is increasingly noticeable year after year" and took advantage of the presence of the minister "to propose an effort" to the central administration in that sense.

Lastly, Héctor Gómez described as “fundamental” the weight of tourism and the impulse that must be given to it from the public sphere. He assured that the commitment to digitization "is beyond any doubt" and that the forecasts for the sector "are very good, but being aware that the tourism industry must be in constant evolution and permanent change." "Other countries are also growing and Spain has the obligation to do so," he added.

Gómez stated that he feels "pleasantly surprised by the involvement of municipalities in data collection and in supporting pioneering projects" and has valued the importance of data "because the information is power and getting ahead in decision-making it's key". Finally, the minister also emphasized the role of the productive fabric in these years "whose behavior has been very good, and that must be highlighted."
