The SM L'Illa divulges about the origins of festive music in a concert-conference of 'Música als Pobles' cycle

This Sunday, the Benidorm Town Hall Assembly Hall hosted a concert conference organized by the Benidorm Provincial Council's L'Illa Musical Society. The conference focused on the origins of festive music and was entitled "A Basic Guide to Understanding the Music of the Moors and Christians." Two former directors of L'Illa, maestro Joan Antoni Espinosa and composer Josep Cano provided information on this topic. At the same time, the band's musicians, under the baton of Felipe Juan Lanuza, complemented their presentations by performing well-known pasodobles, Moorish marches, and Christian marches.
With this concert conference, part of the Alicante Provincial Council's "Campaign for Music in the Towns," the city kicked off the celebrations for the Mig Any of the Moors and Christians of Benidorm.
The mayor and president of the Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, along with other members of the local council, accompanied the L'Illa de Benidorm Musical Society in this recital, which was warmly applauded by the large audience gathered for the occasion and once again demonstrated the great potential of Benidorm's musicians and musical organizations.
"El Bateo" by Federico Chueca; "Fiesta en Benidorm" by Rafael Doménech; "Zoraidamir" by José Pérez Vilaplana; "Suana" by Josep Cano; "Mi Barcelona" by Julio Laporta; "El K'sar el Yedid" by Camilo Pérez Monllor; "Orgullo Santiaguista" by Ignacio Sánchez; "Aleluya" by Amando Blanquer; "Apòstol Poeta R. Duyos" by José Mª Ferrero; "Pas als maseros" by José Mª Valls; and "Cid" by Pedro Joaquín Francés, a Christian march that won the 1st Benidorm Festival Music Competition in 1995, are some of the works included in the repertoire.
The musicians also performed "La canción del Harem" by Camilo Pérez Laporta; "Any d'Alferes" by Amando Blanquer; and "Alfalig," the Moorish march composed by Saúl Gómez that won the 23rd edition of the Festival Music Competition in 2024.
