Full-dress legionnaires guard the image of the crucified Christ
With the Procession of Silence, La Almudena commemorates Maundy Thursday in Benidorm
The celebration of Holy Week in Benidorm focuses its main Maundy Thursday events on the neighbourhoods that mark the northern and western ends of the city, Foietes Colonia Madrid and La Cala.
In the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Almudena, the floats of the Sacramental Brotherhood of the Holy Supper and the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness and Good Death have jointly starred in the Procession of Silence that, after leaving for the 9:00 p.m. from the temple, he has visited the streets Ginés Cartagena, Capitán Cortés, Avenida de la Castellana, Velázquez, Acacias, Goya, Jardines, again and Ginés Cartagena from where the images have returned.
Together with the parish priest of Almundena, Pedro Crespo, they made up the institutional representation chaired by the mayor, Toni Pérez, the Fiestas councillor, Mariló Cebreros, along with a large group of councillors; the president of the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week of Benidorm 2024, Mª Teresa Cantó, also the top leader of the Sacramental Brotherhood of the Holy Supper, flanked by the representatives of the local brotherhoods and brotherhoods, including the Senior Sister of the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness and the Good Dead, Susana Martínez.
Hundreds of neighbours have followed the procession from the public road or their balconies. The climax of the religious event took place in front of the Civil Guard barracks where the traditional trumpet solo sounded with the legionary knights standing at attention.
Procession in La Cala
Also at 9:00 p.m., in the parish of San Juan Bautista, the Brotherhood of the Prayer of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemanbegan the procession. The older member of the Brotherhood, Rafael González, councillors and regional deputies, José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll, participated in it.
The Christ has been guarded through the Plaza de las Tiendas, Pajares Street, Mont Benidorm and Vicente Llorca Alós avenues, Vinaròs and Santander Streets and returned to the church again along Mont Benidorm, Pajares and Tiendas streets.
Good Friday, the procession of the Holy Burial
On Good Friday, the brotherhoods of Benidorm will participate in the procession of the Holy Burial that will depart, at 8:30 p.m., from the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and will travel around the city center. Later, at 11:00 p.m., the parish of San Juan Bautista will host the Penitential Via Crucis.
