The girl Carmen Guillén Campos recites in the Alameda the verses that announce to Mary the resurrection of her son, with which the city ends the Holy Week celebrations

‘L’Ambaixà’ and the Encounter between the Virgin and the Risen Lord are the highlights of Easter Sunday in Benidorm

Ambaixà

Hundreds of people have participated since early this morning in the traditional "Ambaixà," a particularly important event during Benidorm's Holy Week. As every Easter Sunday, the Procession of the Encounter brought together the images of the Risen Jesus and the Virgin Mary in the middle of the central Alameda Street, where a large crowd waited to hear the traditional verse with which Easter is celebrated in the city.

On this occasion, the girl Carmen Guillén Campos was in charge of representing the "angel" who announces to Mary the resurrection of her Son, in an event filled with emotion and joy, attended by the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, along with other members of the municipal council, including the regional representative José Ramón González de Zárate. Also notable were representatives from the parish of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, led by parish priest Juan Antonio González; and the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows, with its president, Estela Canales.

After the meeting, the verse, and the distribution of alleluias by the angelet to all those present, the images of the Virgin and the Risen Christ were taken to the parish church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, where shortly before 9 a.m. the first of the Easter Sunday Masses took place, which will also continue throughout the day in the rest of the city's parishes.

With this event, Benidorm bids farewell to a Holy Week that was well attended in the vast majority of neighbourhoods and in which the processions were massive, both in terms of participation by members of the brotherhoods and the public gathered in the streets to accompany the floats of the brotherhoods and sisterhoods.
