Thousands of people accompany 'La Barqueta' in a festival of Tourist Interest in the Valencian Community
La Mare de Déu rises again from the ashes in the performance of the Find
Poniente Beach has hosted, one more year, and before thousands of residents and tourists, the performance of the Finding of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge, by the Recreational Cultural Association 'La Barqueta', a festival of Tourist Interest of the Community Valenciana, in which more than fifty people have recalled the arrival of the Virgin in the city.
The performance of a historical fact corroborated in the Historical Archive of Simancas by the scholar Pere Maria Orts i Bosch, also author of the dramatized text that returns us to the Benidorm of the past. A 'llondro' found adrift and without a crew, off the coast, is dragged to the beach where the authorities force it to be burned in anticipation of a possible plague. Despite the flames, the image of the Virgin hidden in the nave is not damaged and is discovered by the faithful for whom, since then, she has been its patron saint.
Dozens of members of 'La Barqueta', families with children, parents and grandparents, a historic entity chaired by Francesc Llorens, 'Paco Rosera', have participated in the recreation of the Finding.
Among the attendees, were the mayor, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and the majority of the municipal corporation. As institutional representatives, the national deputy, Agustín Almodóbar; the regional, Manuel Pérez Fenoll; the provincial, José Ramón González de Zárate and the General Director of Informative Relations of the Generalitat, Pere Rostoll. All of them wrapped up the queens of Benidorm 2022, Aila Merenciano and Chloé D'Hebboudt, and the entire festive group represented by the presidents of the Commission and Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge', José Vicente Fuster and Adrián Romero.
