Hundreds of locals and tourists take to the streets for the procession of Our Lady of Hope and Our Father Jesus of Health and Humility
Holy Week in Benidorm moved yesterday afternoon to the Church of El Buen Pastor, where, shortly after 8:00 p.m., the procession of the Royal Brotherhood of Our Lady of Hope and Peace and Our Father Jesus of Health and Humility departed. The Bishop of the Orihuela-Alicante Diocese, José Ignacio Munilla, participated in the procession.
The procession was attended by the Mayor, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, various members of the city council, and regional deputies José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll, who accompanied the members of the brotherhood, the head of the brotherhood, José Manuel Olvera, president of the Benidorm Association of Brotherhoods and Fraternities, and the other presidents of local brotherhoods throughout the route.
As tradition dictates, the images, greeted by the faithful with the singing of saetas (traditional religious songs) and accompanied by the Societat Musical La Nova and the Agrupación Musical Virgen del Sufragio, had their own special encounter upon returning to the church. In front of the National Police station, Christ and his mother received honours from the force, which, it should be noted, is an honorary member of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Hope, thereby giving it a special role in this expression of religious fervour.
The procession departed from the church along Puig Campana Street. It continued along Roldán, Almendros, Limones, Maravall, Apolo XI, Jazmín, Plaza de España, and back along Puig Campana Street and then to the church.
