This afternoon the procession will be held at Buen Pastor with the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y la Esperanza
Devotion and faith come together on Palm Sunday in Benidorm
Holy Week in Benidorm began today with the celebration of Palm Sunday, where hundreds of residents and visitors participated in the traditional blessing of the palms, held in all the city's parishes.
The Ermita was the earliest, with the religious ceremony beginning at 10:15 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., the ceremony was repeated in the parishes of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, La Almudena, and San Francisco de Asís. At 11:30 a.m., the ceremony took place at Buen Pastor, and at 11:45 a.m. at the Church of Nuestra Señora del Mar. At noon, the ceremony was held at San Juan Bautista, and half an hour later, the ceremony began at the Church of Carmen.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the city council, participated in the events held at Sant Jaume i Santa Anna. Also present were Senator Agustín Almodóbar and Regional Deputy Manuel Pérez Fenoll, as well as the Director General of Housing, Sebastián Fernández, and the Director General of Family, Childhood and Adolescence and Demographic Challenge, Angélica Such.
The gathering at Sant Jaume i Santa Anna drew the largest crowd, as did the subsequent procession through the city's historic centre. To the rhythm of the Xirimiters de la Marina (traditional musicians), dozens of children participated, with the "little donkey" carrying the baby Jesus at the head of the procession. The entire event was coordinated by the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús de Nazaret.
Palm Sunday marks the official start of Holy Week 2026 and commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus of Nazareth into Jerusalem, which, according to the Gospels, he did riding on a donkey.
This evening, at 8:00 PM, the procession of Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza y la Paz and Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Salud will depart from the Church of El Buen Pastor. The procession will travel along Puig Campana, Roldán, Avenida de los Almendros, Limones, Maravall, Apolo XI, Jazmín, and Plaza de España streets, before returning to the church via Puig Campana.
