Final of the chess tournament between high schools in Marina Baixa

The Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España hosted this morning the final round of the chess tournament, which has been held throughout the school year between secondary schools in Benidorm and the surrounding area.
Students from Benat de Sarrià, Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza, Mediterrània secondary schools, and Lope de Vega International School in Benidorm, along with students from Arabí de l'Alfàs de Pi and Malladeta de la Vila Joiosa, took over the iconic Benidorm square, where dozens of games were taking place simultaneously.
The student Ou Yang Zhou from Lope de Vega school emerged victorious in the tournament, followed by Alfredo Reguillo and Mykhailo Zavorotuyy, both from Bernat de Sarrià. Lope de Vega International School took first place with 111 points; the Beatriu Fajardo de Mendoza School was second with 101; and Bernat de Sarrià was third with 93.
In addition to the space and technical services necessary for organising the event, the City Council is collaborating with the tournament by providing "the prizes received by the three best-ranked players and the three best schools," said the Councillor for Education, Maite Moreno.
Moreno explained that the tournament serves "not only to foster healthy competition among students, but also to promote exchanges between schools from different municipalities in the region." She also highlighted the "excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie" of the students and teachers, who have been eagerly awaiting the trophy throughout the school year."
