The City Council is bidding for the development of Doctor Perez Llorca Street, which will become semi-pedestrian

24 October 2017
El Ayuntamiento licita la reurbanización de la calle Doctor Pérez Llorca, que pasará a ser semipeatonal

The Government Board definitively awards the second phase of rehabilitation of the old Casa del Camarada

Benidorm City Council is going to tender in the coming days the development of Doctor Pérez Llorca street, which will be converted into a semi-pedestrian street. The Local Government Board approved today the project drafted by the municipal technicians, endorsed by the Urban Scene Advisory Council, and valued at 469,921.60 euros.

The councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that this work aims to "commercially reconvert and revitalize this street" making it comfortable for pedestrians "and thus increasing the flow of people.

De Zárate has detailed that the semi-pedestrianization of Doctor Perez Llorca between Valencia and Martínez Alejos streets is based on the configuration of a route zig-zag through the installation of urban furniture and planters, which will force vehicles to travel this route of about 160 meters to do it at a rate much lower than the current one. Likewise, at the two ends of the section to semi-septate, they will install folding piles.

The design proposed follows the model already implanted in Gambo Street, with a floor similar to this one. In addition, it is proposed to operate a loading and unloading system similar to that of the Carretera de Carretera, where this activity is restricted to a specific schedule in the morning, and that the rest of the day maintains its pedestrian character.

Also in terms of works, the JGL has definitively awarded the second phase of rehabilitation of the former Pensioner's Home, after the company Categor Works and Services has submitted the required bank guarantee. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Angela Llorca, recalled that "at the beginning of the year ended the first phase" of rehabilitation, "which was the stabilization of the structure to maintain the building." In that same phase "parts that were damaged were demolished and others repaired".

"Now," he clarified, "we will proceed to finish the structure, building intermediate slabs and a new volume, which replaces one of those that was demolished for being of very poor quality and that was built many years after the main building." This second phase has been awarded for 74,327.30 euros and "for the coming year we will have the interior adaptation of the building", after which the former Home of the Pensioner can be reopened to the public.
