Brasería Aurrerá wins the Special Public Prize of the XII Tapas and Pinchos Contest

The Brasería Aurrerá has won the first prize in the XII Benidorm Tapas and Skewers Contest thanks to its 'Grilled bacon taco with chiffonade' in the 'Special Audience Award' category, as announced today in an event held in El Torrejó building. In the election for second place in the preferences of the public, there was a tie between La Taberna Andaluza, with its 'Sol de cod', and Aurrerá Pintxos and its 'Brioche Thai'. The third prize went to La Tapería Aurrerá thanks to the cover 'Foie yoghurt and medlar with toña bread'.

As for the rest of the categories, the prize for traditional tapas or skewers went to 'Brioche Thai' from Aurrerá Pintxos. The second prize went to Wine on by Aurrerá and its 'Artichoke from the sea' and the third prize to La Tabernita del Sur for its 'Croquette of octopus stew Murcia style'.
Finally, the first prize for the original tapa or skewer went to the 'Half-salted tuna coke with wakame and wasabi kizami' from the Tabernita del Centro. The tapa 'Gambas wtih garlic on the beach' from Mesón Playa has won the second prize and the 'Foie yoghurt and medlar with pan de toña' from La tapería Aurrerá won third place.

In this edition, each participating restaurant has proposed a creation that has been voted on, on the one hand, by a professional jury and, on the other, by the general public, who have done so after visiting the establishments and tasting them. For this, ballot boxes had been installed in the participating premises to deposit the brochures sealed by at least five establishments. And it has also been voted through the 'app' Gastroevents.

The award ceremony was attended by the mayor Toni Pérez, the godfather of gastronomic Benidorm 2022, Manuel Ruiz Girona; and the representative of Abreca, Alex Frattini, who have been accompanied by several members of the municipal corporation.

The mayor congratulated all the winners for their work and creativity, as well as thanked Abreca for their work and highlighted local gastronomy as a "very important and fundamental" part of promoting the city because "both restaurants and the hotel industry have a lot to do with the full satisfaction of those who visit us”.

Pérez has also highlighted that the three Benidorm Gastronomic 2022 events already held "have met expectations", especially in "a still difficult year in which Benidorm returns to where it used to and in which the city has greatly improved reputationally".

Toni Pérez has assured us that “now we are better because during the worst moments we have thought, analyzed and made decisions. And we are a great destination that is very well valued outside our term”. The mayor has affirmed that "in this process, the contribution of gastronomy is extremely high" and has expressed his confidence that "we are in a period of recovery and the hope is to grow and aspire to the maximum". That is why he has encouraged us "to continue working for a model, ours, always unfinished, but better every day".

For his part, Abreca's representative, Alex Frattini, underlined the success of the contest and was convinced that "the cocktail contest, which will be the next event, will also be a great success, as are all the collaborations between the City Hall and Abreca”.
