Working groups explore solutions for users with transport access needs

Benidorm works to advance accessibility in the city's tourist transport

20 November 2023
Benidorm trabaja para avanzar en la accesibilidad en los transportes turísticos de la ciudad

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Tourism, is working on a project on accessibility in tourist transport in the city, an action that is part of the Strategic Plan for Accessible Tourism of Benidorm.

This work is carried out jointly with the Tur4All area, accessible tourism in Impulsa Igualdad (formerly Predif).

For this reason, a participatory working group with companies and entities offering transport services in Benidorm was held in the Torrejó building. These meetings aim to generate heterogeneous work groups that help specify the needs linked to users with access needs in terms of transportation, both in the tourist field and in that of the resident population, as well as the possible opportunities and solutions to the weaknesses that may be found.

The results derived from these working groups will be conveyed in the form of actions, proposals, and indicators that improve the quality of the transport service in the municipality and that at the same time can improve the experience and quality of the destination as a whole. In that sense, another working group is scheduled to be held before the end of this year.

The Benidorm Accessible Tourism Strategic Plan establishes five objectives: improving the conditions of accessibility to the tourist offer; the management of accessibility in the tourism field with human and technical resources and involving the private sector; awareness and professionalization through sensitization to make the need for accessibility visible, including training and training material; improving competitiveness by creating authentic, universally accessible tourism products; and, finally, the promotion and improvement of positioning.

Benidorm has always expressed its political will to comply with the Universal Accessibility Law and to go further by adapting its tourism products to become a top-quality destination in terms of accessibility.
