Benidorm starts the work to improve the environment and the public use of Moralet
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the councilors of the government team and the municipal technicians responsible for the project, this morning made a visit to the start of works of the "Environmental improvement and public use of El Moralet", one of the most important actions of those financed by the European Union through the actions integrated in Benidorm EDUSI (Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Development Strategy).
It is an action integrated into EDUSI Thematic Objectives 6, those dedicated to the "Improvement of urban areas, green areas and depressed spaces", and will try to create a large green ring for the enjoyment of citizenship, through of pedestrian walks, cycling paths for BTT, or for sports, right next to the city.
The works, which have started this week and will have an execution period of 6 months, amount to € 908,303.59 of investment, of which the European Union has financed € 454,151.79, and will be carried out by the Bertolín merchant, which has also presented a plan of the actions to be carried out in this green lung of the city.
Among the actions to be carried out in El Moralet, there are three large recreational areas, with an interpretation center, and a network of urban trails for families, for cyclists, and for running fans, as well as a program for the prevention of fires from the accumulation of reclaimed water in certain points of the natural area.
For the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, “this work is possible thanks to the good urban planning of our city, very compact, which allows us to have a fabulous coastline as well as a green line that will cross Benidorm on the inside , and that it will have more than a million square meters, and a very important investment for our future generations ”.
According to the Mayor, “the European Union gave the green light to a Sustainable Development Strategy in which a process of fundamental citizen participation was produced to rethink the city, improve it through new sustainable investments, and leave a green and blue Benidorm for everyone to enjoy. the citizenship". And it has also highlighted the citizen collaboration in "the signaling and design of the pedestrian and cycling paths, in which they have been involved Benidorm Athletics Club, BTT and cyclists section of the same". Pérez concluded by stating that it is "a great emblematic project for a great city project."
The works basically consist of the following:
▪ Improvement of existing roads (there is no opening of new roads). It is about regularizing the platform and solving the points where erosion problems are found, both on the road itself and on the slopes. The problems encountered are mainly gullies in sloping areas.
▪ Enhancement of the platform of the old train track, which implies a top-down and incorporation of gravel, among other tasks.
▪ Installation of wooden fences to provide security in areas where there is unevenness.
▪ Collection of abandoned rubble and environmental improvement of those areas.
▪ Pruning of trees on the sides of the roads and possible occasional removal of some
trees.
▪ Construction of three recreational areas.
▪ Enhancement of ethnological elements of interest.
▪ Measures to promote biodiversity.
▪ Introduction of lighting at some points with solar street lamps.
▪ Enrichment of native vegetation.
