Benidorm schoolchildren plant 200 trees to commemorate the 'Tree Day'

17 February 2017
Los escolares de Benidorm plantan 200 árboles para conmemorar el Día del Árbol

This year students from fifth and sixth year of El Murtal and Vasco Núñez de Balboa schools have participated

One hundred children, students of 5 and 6 year of Primary Education of El Murtal and Vasco Núñez de Balboa schools, have participated this morning in the repopulation of the 'Bosc dels xiquets', a plot of Foia del Ca, belonging to the Society Thematic Projects of the Comunitat Valenciana, as it has been done since 2006, on the occasion of the celebration of the 16th edition of the 'Tree Day'.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, who also heads Education department and the councilor for the Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, along with other colleagues of the corporation, have monitored the work of schoolchildren who during the morning and with the support of teachers and municipal technical staff, have planted about 200 native species.

"It is a message of sustainability, of development, of love for the environment and ecology," said Toni Pérez, who has emphasized the defense of the "Mediterranean culture" related to trees and "what our parks, gardens and green areas are. The mayor has defended the celebration of this type of activities that combine education and ecological environment because thanks to them "we will leave a better world" to those who come after us.

In the celebration of the Day of the Tree have collaborated the departments of Education, Environment and Street Cleaning. Teachers from El Murtal and Vasco Núñez de Balboa and members of the parents associations were also present. The specimens that have been planted belong to aladierno species, (Rhamnus alaternus), Cartagena cypress (Tetraclinis articulata), algarrobo (Ceratonia siliqua), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and coscoja (Quercus coccifera).
