Benidorm City Council is going to propose to the government of the Generalitat Valenciana to extend the agreement for the construction and commissioning of the cultural centre to start addressing the second and final phase of the project. For this, the mayor, Toni Pérez, is going to submit a proposal to the next plenary session to express "expressly the will of the City Council to extend the agreement for four years" signed at the end of July 2018 with the Thematic Projects Society of the Valencian Community (SPTCV ).

The proposal has been addressed today in a Board of Spokespersons. The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the management of the SPTCV were requested to "adopt the same resolution" and "express their willingness in writing to extend the agreement". As the proposal points out, "regardless" of when this extension is signed, the agreements must be "notified and exchanged before July 31" to "avoid the extinction".

In the same Board of Spokespersons, the mayor has also transferred to the groups of the Corporation a budget modification to pay for the VAT of the first phase of the work of the cultural centre and to increase by 100,000 euros the contribution of the City Council to the Benidorm Handball Club after their European classification.

This budget change will be agreed upon in the informative commission tomorrow, Tuesday, and voted in the next plenary. It includes the maximum amount that the City Council will have to assume. Specifically, the VAT for this operation would amount to about 4 million euros.

With this budget change, the City Council continues to take steps to the agreements reached last week in the Joint Monitoring Commission of the cultural centre to start up as soon as possible the facilities included in the first phase, such as the spaces for the Municipal Conservatories of Music and Dance or the smaller room with capacity for around 450 seats.
