Benidorm observes a minute of silence in protest for the murder of a woman in Cartagena

Benidorm guarda un minuto de silencio en protesta por el asesinato de una mujer en Cartagena

Benidorm City Hall has observed a minute of silence in memory of the last victim of gender violence in our country. With the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Equality councillor, Paquita Ripoll, together with representatives of different political groups, officials and neighbors, the city has once again demonstrated its solidarity with the victims and their frontal rejection this social scourge.

On this occasion, the victim was only 20 years old. The alleged killer and ex-couple, 22. Both residents in Cartagena (Murcia). The fact is that the woman had only reported an hour before her abuser for mistreatment. The Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, has lamented and strongly condemned this event and has opted for "the joint work of everyone to end once and for all with the macho violence." Ripoll also recalled the existence of the toll-free number for victims, the 016 that leaves no trace on the telephone bill.

With this, there are 37 women who have been victims of gender violence in Spain so far this year, which could amount to 40 if three cases are confirmed that are still being investigated. For this reason 18 children have been orphaned.
