The body brings together councilors and equality officers from all the municipalities of the Marina Baixa region in its monthly meeting
The Regional Council for Equality is finalizing two new campaigns on co-responsibility and self-care
The Marina Baixa Regional Council for Equality is finalising the launch of two new campaigns aimed at promoting shared responsibility in caregiving, as well as self-esteem and self-care, in anticipation of the summer season. Ángela Zaragozí, Councillor for Equality of the Benidorm City Council, participated in the monthly meeting of this body in Altea. The meeting, held at the Altea Social Centre, brought together councillors, technicians, and equality promoters from across the region, and was chaired on this occasion by the Councillor for Equality, Anna Lanuza.
During this working session, focused on promoting equality policies and awareness-raising initiatives, the final details of the shared responsibility campaign were addressed. This campaign, to be launched next May, aims to continue raising awareness about the importance of promoting an equitable distribution of tasks within the family, which continues to be predominantly assumed by women. This situation leads to a high rate of both physical and mental health problems, which is why the Council is promoting initiatives aimed at informing and raising public awareness, emphasising the need for shared responsibility.
Likewise, the development of a campaign to promote body acceptance has also been proposed, especially with the arrival of summer, a time when an increase in health problems stemming from eating disorders is observed, particularly among younger women. The Council has stressed that equality also implies self-care and self-acceptance, always placing health at the forefront. Therefore, this new initiative will begin at the start of summer and will continue throughout the year with different activities and initiatives focused on body care at different stages of life, such as adolescence and old age, as well as in various aspects of daily life, such as social media presence, nutrition, and body image, among others.
Councilwoman Ángela Zaragozí stated that “once again, this has been a very productive working session in which we have continued to make coordinated progress toward achieving real and effective equality between women and men.” She also emphasised that “shared responsibility is key to this, especially within the family,” and highlighted the “commitment of the Regional Equality Council to continue developing awareness campaigns and initiatives that contribute to building a more equal and healthier society.”
