Benidorm will host the first edition of the Mediterranean Coast Challenger, a swimming trip that will take place next Saturday, September 30 in waters of the Bay. This was announced this morning the Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, in appearance before the media. The mayor has been accompanied by the national Olympic team coach, Ricardo Barreda, and the director and coordinator of the event, Ricardo Barreda and Sara Soler.

The first test that will take place will be the 'Mediterranean Pro Traverse', which will cover 10 km between the Mal Pas beach and the Island of Benidorm, at 8.00 in the morning. The second will be the 'Mediterranean Traverse' of 5.5 km, in waters between the Island and Mal Pas beach. On this test, Cabrillo has pointed out that it will be "the last test of the Spanish Open Water Cup of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation", where also will participate the Benidormer Miguel Bou, Club Anibe, current leader of the classification.

At 11.00 in the morning the Mediterranean Coast Challenger will continue with the 'Travesía Popular', 2 km, leaving at 11.00 am to be played between the beaches of Levante and Mal Pas. Finally, at 11.45 am, the 'Mini Mediterranean Crossing' will take you to 500 meters.

Anyone who wishes, has the skills, and is over 16 years old can participate in this competition. In addition, swimmers with functional diversity can register "both in the Popular and in the Mediterranean", stressed Arturo Cabrillo who also has qualified that "it will be mandatory to use the neoprene if the water temperature is below 15 °", although has shown confidence in the weather forecast announcing "a fantastic time" for Saturday.

For his part, Ricardo Barreda has pointed out that the Spanish Cup consists of 15 stages that end this week. The swimmers must complete at least four and one of the three compulsory, of which "one is the final," said coach of the Olympic national team, another the Open Water Championship in Banyoles (Girona) in June; and another is the Mid-Summer Stage Plus in Benicarló (Castelló).

Although the deadline for registration is formally closed, from the organization have pointed out that tomorrow, Wednesday, will be reopened so that people can enroll as they wish. You can expand the information at http://www.mediterraneancoastchallenge.com/.
