Benidorm observes a minute of silence to condemn the femicides of three women in Toledo, Seville and Barcelona

Benidorm guarda un minuto de silencio para condenar los crímenes machistas de tres mujeres en Toledo, Sevilla y Barcelona

Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence at noon this Wednesday to condemn the three latest femicides confirmed in Spain in the last few hours by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. These femicides claimed the lives of three women in the provinces of Toledo, Seville, and Barcelona. The silent vigil took place at the City Hall entrance and was led by the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, who reiterated the urgent need to combat this scourge firmly during this particularly tragic time, as gender-based violence has claimed the lives of at least five women in the last nine days.

The first victim was a 39-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her partner on December 3, 2025, in Torrijos, Toledo. There were no prior reports of gender-based violence against the alleged perpetrator. The victim had three minor children.

The victim in Seville was a 30-year-old woman, and the crime was allegedly committed by her partner on December 6th in the municipality of Viso del Alcor. There were no prior reports of gender-based violence against the alleged perpetrator. The victim also had three minor children.

The most recent confirmed victim was a 36-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her partner this past Tuesday, December 9th, in Hospitalet, Barcelona. She was also the mother of three children, two of whom were minors, and all of whom resided outside of Spain. In this case, there were also no prior reports of gender-based violence.

With the confirmation of these three femicides, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners has risen to 42 so far this year and to 1,337 since 2003, when the counting of victims began.

In addition to these cases, there is another murder, still under investigation as a gender-based violence crime, of a 50-year-old woman in the Valencian municipality of Catarroja. She died after a brutal beating allegedly inflicted by her current partner, according to the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.

The Department of Equality reminds residents that Benidorm City Council has specialised staff available to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims of violence against women can call the free helpline 016, which does not appear on phone bills, although it is recommended to delete it from mobile phone call logs. This service operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in 53 languages, and offers a service adapted to people with disabilities.

Victims can also use online support services via email at 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel at 600.000.016, and the online chat accessible from the Ministry of Equality's website, all of which operate 24/7.

In an emergency, you can also call 112 or the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If making a call is not possible and you are in a dangerous situation, you can use the ALERTCOPS app, which will send an alert to the police with your geolocation. All these support services can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows of or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It is a duty of all of society.
