The initiative, promoted by the Historical Heritage department, is celebrated this weekend

Benidorm joins the European Archeology Conference for the third year with guided tours and a concert in the Tossal 'castellum'

12 June 2024
Benidorm se suma por tercer año a las Jornadas Europeas de Arqueología con visitas guiadas y un concierto en el ‘castellum’ del Tossal

For the third consecutive year, Benidorm actively participates in the European Archeology Days, which are taking place this weekend in more than thirty countries at the initiative of the French National Institute for Preventive Research (Inrap). The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, has announced that “on this occasion, we are going to focus all attention on our 'castellum' of Tossal de la Cala, which for the first time arrives at these days officially registered as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). )”, last July the General Directorate of Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana completed the file started decades ago.

In addition to three days of open doors to the site, the Historical Heritage area has scheduled guided visits to the 'castellum' in which "an archaeologist will explain to visitors the history of the fort, how the Roman soldiers who inhabited it lived and which "They have been the most important materials found in the different excavation campaigns."

These guided tours are free, three showings are scheduled for Friday at 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.; while on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th they can be done every hour between 10:00 and 13:00. Visits can be arranged until Friday at 2:00 p.m. by email at visitatossal@benidorm.org.
Pellicer explained that this year, as a novelty, "music will be part of these European Archeology Days, with a concert on Saturday by the Chamber Group of the Benidorm Musical Union", in which songs are known to different generations such as ' La vie en rose' or the soundtrack of 'Cinema Paradiso'.

The councillor highlighted that “Tossal de la Cala is one of the most emblematic places in our city, not only for its historical and archaeological component but also for its location, so experiencing the sunset from this enclave and doing it with music is to be, without a doubt, a unique experience.” The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately one hour.
