Benidorm City Council, through the Street Cleaning Department, will reinforce the cleaning and waste collection service starting this Saturday, June 15, with more workers and special actions in neighbourhoods and tourist areas on the occasion of the season. summer. To carry out this special operation, the service concessionaire company is going to incorporate all the permanent members of the workforce, raising the total number of workers in charge of cleaning and waste collection to 200. In this way, "the three daily shifts, which cover 24 hours a day, will be reinforced so that the service can be provided under better conditions at a time when the population of Benidorm is multiplying and, therefore, "Much more waste than usual," explained Luis Navarro.
The councillor has detailed that, apart from the usual services that are provided throughout the year, in the summer months "the cleaning work will be carried out by neighbourhoods, in the afternoon shift", for which "a sweeper; a 'hydro' vehicle with pressurized water that uses degreaser, hypochlorite and deodorizer; and a blower, with the corresponding personnel for these tasks.”
As regards areas with a greater concentration of people and a large influx of tourists, such as the beaches of Levante or Poniente, sweeping and emptying of litter bins will be increased, which, based on data from other seasons, will be It can be done up to eight times a day. Also in areas with a high presence of the public and where there are containers to separate waste, such as Plaza de la Constitución, Hort de Colón, Pintor Lozano or Plaza de la Senyoria, an information campaign will be carried out on the proper use of underground containers. , which will be completed with greater maintenance of containers and litter bins throughout the city.
Likewise, cleaning will be carried out at the entrances to Benidorm, on roads, ditches and outskirts and waste collection will be reinforced with a rear-loading vehicle that, in addition to emptying the sweeping containers, will attend to emergencies that may arise at any point. of the city, explained the person in charge of Street Cleaning. “We intend that Benidorm not only offers its best image to tourists but also to all of us who live and work here every day of the year,” concluded Luis Navarro.
