The new containers, four for organic, one of glass, another for containers and another for cardboard paper, improve the image, cleanliness and facilitate the collection of waste

Benidorm installs seven new underground containers for selective collection in l'Hort de Colón

The Department of Street Cleaning has installed seven new underground containers in Hort de Colón that substantially improve the waste collection service on public roads and the image of this enclave.

These are four organic waste containers, one for containers, another for glass, and one more for cardboard paper that replace the previously existing ones, which took up more space on the surface and generated more dirt.

The Councilor for Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, and the acting mayoress, Ana Pellicer, have verified their operation 'in situ' this morning and there the mayor has highlighted "that the area has gained a lot in the image because before we had many more containers and now, however, we have them underground and with greater capacity”.

The new containers, in addition, will not pose some of the problems that arose with the previous ones. “The old ones had the motor below the surface and that often caused it to flood and stop working. Now, being on the surface, that problem disappears” explained González de Zárate. At the same time, there is also gain in terms of occupational risk prevention, and ease of cleaning containers. "They are also more accessible to people" added the councilor.

The head of Street Cleaning, who has advanced that this system will be implemented in other parts of the city, has encouraged residents "to do recycling" and to comply with the schedule to deposit waste. "In this way, we will have fewer problems with the smell, although with these new containers that problem is more controlled," he indicated.

Thus, according to the municipal ordinance, glass containers must be deposited in their corresponding container from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. In the case of organic waste, the hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
