The mayor gives the AMT Destination Award for 'Sustainability' to an international project that was tested in a hotel chain in Benidorm

Feria Fitur en Madrid 2023

For the second consecutive year, a project linked to Benidorm has been recognized at the AMT Smart Destination Awards, awards that are convened every year by the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sol y Playa (AMT) in collaboration with the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) to recognize the best ideas and innovative proposals linked to tourism intelligence. The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with his counterpart from Arona, José Julián Mena, was in charge of presenting the award in the 'Sustainability' category to Aguardio Apps, a solution to guide people to reduce their consumption of water and energy, sponsored by the University of Surrey and which was tested in the establishments of the Benidorm Hoteles Poseidón hotel chain.

An awards ceremony took place yesterday afternoon at Fitur, which was closed by the Minister of Tourism Reyes Maroto, and in which Invat tur won the award in the category of 'Comprehensive management of the destination'. The director of the center based in Benidorm, Francisco Juan, was in charge of collecting the award.

During the closing ceremony, the minister praised the role of the sun and beach tourist municipalities, as well as the role of the tourism industry as a "vector for generating employment and wealth." Maroto valued the joint work of public administrations and private initiatives to get out of the crisis by "modernizing and transforming destinations" and "taking advantage" of the funds that come from Europe to generate smart destinations.

After the act, the minister shared a relaxed meeting with Toni Pérez and the rest of the mayors present from the AMT, of which, in addition to Benidorm, the municipalities of Adeje, Arona, Calviá, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana are part and Torremolinos.
